Sony Bend’s upcoming game is called Days Gone, an open-world action-adventure set in the beautiful, volcanic scarred high-desert of the Pacific Northwest two years after a devastating global pandemic.
Information is scarce at the moment, except for a debut trailer that established the backstory at Sony’s E3 2016 press conference. The global pandemic incident wiped out almost everyone on the planet, and those who managed to somehow survive, were ultimately transformed into “Freakers” – mindless, feral creatures who are always on the hunt for humans. The trailer showcases some of these mutated beings, working together at one point as a horde and attacking from the shadows in another.
At its core, Days Gone is about survivors and what makes them human: desperation, loss, madness, betrayal, friendship, brotherhood, regret, love – and hope. It’s about how even when confronted with such enormous tragedy they find a reason to live. Hope never dies.
Players are going to fill the shoes of Deacon St. John, a drifter and bounty hunter who “rides the broken road, fighting to survive while searching for a reason to live”. Thanks to skills that he learned prior in his life as an outlaw biker, Deacon has been surviving the new world. However, the Freakers are evolving, and Deacon may yet face an unbeatable threat.
Days Gone is currently without a release date.
