The Elder Scrolls VI Confirmed to Be in Development, New Engine Teased

It goes without saying that Bethesda Softworks is working on a new The Elder Scrolls VI game, but an official confirmation nonetheless brings closure.

During E3 2016, Game Director Todd Howard held an interview with Geoff Keighley during a YouTube livestream. Talking about upcoming games from Bethesda Softworks, Howard confirmed that the studio is currently working on a sixth installment in the long-running series. However, he said that the game is still a “long way off” from being released.

I have to be careful what I say—it’s [Elder Scrolls VI] a very long way off. I could sit here and explain the game to you, and you would say, ‘That sounds like you don’t even have the technology—how long is that going to take?’ And so it’s something that’s going to take a lot of time, what we have in mind for that game.

The mention of new technology is interesting. That likely hints towards the developer creating a brand new engine for the new game. Fans would appreciate that as well, as it would allow the developer to not only include new features but also state-of-the-art visuals and enhancements.

Howard also revealed that the studio is working on two other “large projects” which are likely to revealed before the next Elder Scrolls game is announced. He lastly said that it’s going to be sometime before Bethesda starts talking about The Elder Scrolls VI, much to the dismay of all of us. Heck, I was hoping to witness a surprise debut trailer at the company’s E3 2016 press briefing.
