Batman: The Telltale Series Receives Hotfix to Curb Graphical Issues on PC

Telltale Games’ first episode of Batman: The Telltale Series arrived on PC earlier this week with a series of technical issues. While everyone appreciated the solid story experience which the studio is known for, issues varying from fluctuating frame-rates and audio made the entire point-and-click graphic adventure less than stellar.

Several players also reported that playing the game in full-screen mode and high Anti Aliasing settings cripples visual fidelity. However, even technical problems didn’t deter players from playing the game. Many found solace in solutions such as playing the game in windowed mode and in low settings.

These include disabling display scaling to resolve blurry, low-resolution graphics and downloading a certain file to avoid a DirectX error on Windows 7.

Today, Telltale Games has released a hotfix to curb the buggy experience, promising several optimizations for the game to help pave way to a smoother launch of Episode 2. According to the official post, the issues were being caused by integrated graphics cards and outdated drivers.

“Investigations indicate that many of these issues appear to have been due to running the game on integrated graphics cards rather than dedicated,” it explained. “Or [they] were the result of out of date drivers. Special thanks to those in the community who have already helped others resolve these issues before a patch could go live.”

The hotfix does the following:

  • Automatically defaults the game to run on dedicated graphics card
  • Adds graphics settings to enable selection of Higher Performance Textures or Higher Quality Textures (please select Higher Performance if performance is an issue)

The developer is advising players to update their drivers as soon as possible. Any further graphical issues faced are most probably going to be because of outdated graphical drivers. Additionally, those playing on laptops are instructed to use their dedicated graphics card and not the integrated Intel chip.

Batman: The Telltale Series is now waiting on Episode 2. While the developer hasn’t revealed a release date, it has previously mentioned a delay of 5-7 weeks before the release of each new episode. In that light you can fully expect Batman: The Telltale Series Episode 2 to arrive next month.
