Gamescom 2016 saw Blizzard announce the first new map for Overwatch called Eichenwalde, an overwhelming German castle.
The new battleground is designed for hybrid assault and escort missions. One team is going to go to work escorting a battering ram to the front gates of the Eichenwalde Castle, while the second team is going to try make sure that battering ram never reaches its destination.
Said to be the birthplace of the robot Bastion, players can expect to find a number of destroyed Bastion robots littered throughout the map. Eichenwalde is also famous for being the site where “leader of the Crusaders, Balderich von Alder, and a handful of his best soldiers made a last stand against an advancing automaton army.” While the sheer numbers of the automatons finally broke through, the valiant efforts of the soldiers allowed the German military to counterattack and eventually win the fight.
Blizzard is committed to delivering excellent support for Overwatch, making sure that the community has always something to look forward to. In July, the game received a new Hero called Ana. The mother of Pharah came armed with a Biotic rifle and the ability to both heal allies and do “ongoing damage” to enemies.
Eichenwalde is scheduled to release in September.
