Rainbow Six Siege: Semi-Auto Shotguns and Pulse Are Being Nerfed

The ESL Pro League finals for Rainbow Six Siege took place on PC over the weekend. In between the matches, Ubisoft discussed on stream some of the major changes it intends to bring to the game with the next patch.

According to the developer, players can expect a new update to arrive around the end of August. This will address two major aspects that the community has been debating on for quite a while now: the power of semi-auto shotguns and efficiency of Pulse. Note that the following values are subject to change but you can grasp an idea of what to expect.

Semi-auto Shotguns (Super 90, SPAS-12, SPAS-15, M1014) are incredibly powerful right now. Even though they are supposed to work in close-quarter combat only, players are finding it relatively easy to blast away foes at medium range, and without the need of aiming. Hence, Ubisoft has finally decided to nerf them by decreasing their damage (25-30 percent) and dropping accuracy levels. The pellets from each blast are now going to have an increased spread, making it less accurate at medium-long range.

Pulse Operator has been enjoying a fine time with his heartbeat scanner that allows him to detect foes through walls and objects. With the next update though, the scanning range is going to be reduced from 13 meters to 9. Additionally, players will no longer be able to quickly weapon-switch from the scanner to the weapon; Pulse will now complete his entire animation sequence.

This isn’t the first time that Ubisoft has addressed Pulse’s scanning ability. As part of the recent Operation Skull Rain update, Pulse’s scanner was tweaked to limit the time for each blip. Previously, detected foes would keep showing on the scanner for an extended duration. Currently, that time-frame has been brought down considerably.

Operation Skull Rain introduced two new BOPE (Batalhão de Operações Policiais Especiais) Operators: Capitao (Attacker) and Caveira (Defender). There’s also a new Favela map that has been introduced for free for everyone. You can read all about it here. The next expansion pack is teased to focus on Japan.
