Modern Warfare Remastered Will Be Sold Separately in the Future

With just over a month to go before the release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered, new information has come to light that will be pleasing for fans of the popular and revolutionary 2007 first-person shooter.

Presently, Modern Warfare Remastered can only be obtained by purchasing a copy of this year’s new Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. The decision to chain the remastered game to the new installment has not gone well with the community. Since its announcement, everyone has been calling out Activision to make the game available as a standalone purchase.

While Activision has been maintaining radio silence on the matter, the studio in charge of the remastered version has made a surprising announcement. According to Raven Software, Modern Warfare Remastered will definitely be sold independently in the future.

Speaking with Game Reactor recently, studio director Davod Pellas stated that 10 of the multiplayer maps from the original game will be released at launch-day. The remaining six maps are going to arrive later. That doesn’t sound like much until you read how Pellas worded the announcement.

“What we announced before today was that we were going to offer 10 maps on launch, and that’s still true,” he said. “The announcement today is that the six remaining maps we are actually going to be delivering to anyone who purchases Modern Warfare Remastered, anyone who owns it or a version of Infinite Warfare that comes with it, they’re going to get all 16 of the maps for no additional cost.”

That pretty much nails it down. While guaranteeing that all 16 multiplayer maps from the original game will be released for everyone, Pellas made a distinction between those who will purchase the game separately and those who will obtain it with Infinite Warfare.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like that this offer will be up for grabs any time soon. Activision is likely to keep strolling on the present path, amassing initial sales, and will announce an independent release in the future. That is probably going to be in early or mid-2017.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Remastered and Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare are set to release on November 4 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
