Uncharted 4 Survival Co-Op Mode Arrives Next Month

Naughty Dog is still not done with Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End. The critically acclaimed action-adventure experience like no other is getting a new cooperative mode next month.

“Survival” allows players to team up with two additional friends to take on swarms of enemies and complete unique objectives. As it is with any wave-based mode, each new assult brings more powerful enemies for players to deal with. As such, players aren’t restricted to cooperative play to go through the mode. Those willing can jump in for a solo experience as well.

In a new blog post, Naughty Dog pointed out that Survival for Uncharted 4 is based upon the cooperative Arena modes from the previous two installments. Those who have already experienced those modes will “feel right at home”. So are there any major differences or improvements with Uncharted 4? According to the developer, yes.

“We’ve built upon and evolved the core gameplay experience with an entirely new level of depth, challenge, and variety,” explained the developer. “From new enemy types and powerful new bosses to a dedicated progression system and expansive upgradable arsenal, Survival is all about strategy, camaraderie, and skill.”

Survival will release with a total of 10 maps, each of which features 50 waves and a special boss apperance at the end of every 10 waves. Naughty Dog is cautioning players to not take the AI lightly.

“To reach wave 50, you’ll need to work your way through objective modes where victory depends on defending a particular area, collecting treasures within a time limit, or taking out marked enemies. We might even throw a curveball at you from time to time, like when an active modifier makes it so only pistols, headshots, or melee attacks do damage to enemies.”

Survival is more than simply taking out foes. Completing objectives during the waves net you in-game cash that can be spent on unlocking an arsenal of weapons found in crates dotted around the maps.

Uncharted 4: Survival will be playable at PlayStation Experience next week, and will launch in mid-December.
