Dishonored 2 PC Performance Issues!

dishonored-2-5-768x430

The good folks over at WCCFTech talked about performance issues in Dishonored 2 stating that the port has some significant issues.

Since then, a lot of people have reported a lot of performance issues. A machine worth more than 1000$ (i7 6700K and a GTX 1080 OC) cannot play the game at 4K even by reducing the settings. Moreover, the game shows significant FPS drops even at 1440p as you can see in the video shown below.

Bethesda prepared this FAQ which talks about the performance issues, however, one must realize that there are a large number of games out there which have much better graphics than Dishonored 2 and are able to run fluently on 4k@60fps with the help of a GTX 1080.

This is especially annoying since the game seems to run fine on consoles as well. Let us hope that Bethesda fixes these issues quickly, this is the FAQ which Bethesda posted on the Dishonored 2 forums/website.

PC Launch FAQ

Check to ensure that your machine meets the game’s minimum requirements and that you are not running any other programs in the background.

If your PC meets the Recommended Specs we encourage you to play with High settings for a more consistent 60fps experience. Only PCs that far exceed those Recommended Specs should opt for Ultra settings.

General recommendations

o   Avoid using Alt-Tab when playing. Relaunch the game if you see performance dropping after using Alt-Tab.

o   Avoid having background applications running in addition to the game.

Video Settings

o   If you have performance issues, try lowering the resolution.

  • Use 1440p resolution only if you have a very high-end GPU ( GTX 1070/1080 or equivalent)

o   Keep the V-Sync activated, especially if you have large framerate fluctuations.

o   If you have framerate under 30 fps, adjust the “Adaptive Resolution” between minimum (50%) and default value (75%).

Advanced Settings

o   Use the “Auto” presets:  this should adjust your visual settings without impacting your framerate.

o   If you still have performance issues with “Auto” presets:

  • Try deactivating the “TXAA Anti-Aliasing”

  • Try lowering the texture details

After some time Bethesda posted this on their official site

We have been monitoring the PC forums and social channels and while we’re excited to hear that many of you are enjoying the game, we are disheartened that some of you are experiencing PC performance issues on some systems.

We are actively working to provide an update to address your concerns. The patch and its release notes will be available in the coming days.

With the feedback our support group as received, we are preparing a patch intended to provide improvements to allow for more consistent framerates on affected systems and provide an update to the mouse code for smoother input.

After a few days, Dishonored 2 Game Director Harvey Smith has soo far been the most responsive representative of the game and discusses the game’s performance issues in great detail.

He has already replied to a lot of question on his Twitter account, he states that he is ‘distressed’ about the problems PC users are having. He also stated that the game was tested before release and is  not a port.

It also seems that data collection has really helped developers understand where the issue was

@ShankTheTank @BethesdaSupport we have a clear view of several problems – the data collection has helped on top of that

— Harvey Smith (@Harvey1966) November 12, 2016

The Game Director has also stated numerous times that features other than graphics can causes performance issues as well.

Even with the issues, however, Dishonored 2 is a worthy successor to the first Dishonored. TechDrake and the entire PC community hopes that Bethesda and Arkane quickly fix these performance issues so we can enjoy playing this fantastic sequel!
