DICE Reveals Features Coming to Battlefield 1 Rented Servers

Let’s be honest. The rent-a-server feature for Battlefield 1 has proven to be lackluster compared to what we had with past installments.

EA’s decision to cut out third-party vendors and instead rent out servers directly was supposed to grant everyone more freedom and control. However, as it came to light last month, the situation is completely opposite. Several features pertaining to customization and server privileges were pulled back for administrators and owners.

Days before Christmas, DICE has revealed a list of features inbound for the rent-a-server program. The highly requested admin control panel is finally making its way to the game, allowing moderators to kick/ban players and create a VIP list to reserve slots for specific players.

Another upcoming feature is password-protected servers. However, that comes at the cost of making the servers unranked. This means that players will not receive any experience or progression rewards, though all items will be available.

Here is a quick rundown to some of the new features that DICE is considering:

Squad Leader Spawn Only
A popular setting from previous titles. We are looking to add this in a future update so server admins can set this on their server.

Behemoth On/Off toggle
A new setting for admins where they can turn off the Behemoth from spawning on their servers.

Whole Magazine Reload
A setting from previous Hardcore versions. Admins will have access to turn it on or off on their servers.

In the future, DICE might also redesign the Battlefield 1 server browser to highlight rented servers. “In an effort to address this, we are looking into giving all rented servers priority in the server browser. This means that rented servers will always be displayed at the top of the server browser,” DICE explained.

There are various other functions being considered by the developer but at the moment, DICE is “not ready to talk about them just yet”.
