In development exclusively for PlayStation 4, Insomniac Games has been given a free leash for the new Spider-Man game by Marvel itself.
Speaking with CosmicBookNews recently, Creative Director for Marvel Games Bill Rosemann confirmed that the new Spider-Man game has no connection with the movies. Since there is nothing tying the game down, Marvel has decided to offer Insomniac Games the freedom to devise and tell its own story.
Furthermore, Rosemann stated that his team is only collaborating with the developer to help execute their vision “to the fullest.” With such freedom comes great responsibility, and Marvel believes that Insomniac Games will bring a new flavor to the franchise, “something new and unexpected” for fans.
The E3 2016 trailer revealed Spider-Man in a brand new outfit; Rosemann let it be known that he is a great fan of that change. “In my opinion, it’s the best-designed super hero costume of all-time,” he said. “If you’re going to alter it, you have to understand what the original design achieved and be very thoughtful and have a reason for everything.”
Sony has already revealed that the new Spider-Man game is not going to be an origins story, rather it features a matured Peter Parker who has mastered the art of crime fighting and web-slinging. The storyline will focus on his struggle to balance his personal life and career.
We’re still without a release date, making us assume that the game is going to perhaps launch in late 2017.
