Capcom has posted a hefty announcement for Street Fighter V on its official blog, detailing what it is calling the “biggest update to the game yet” and which is insinuated to make the month of June an incredibly exciting one for fans.
Street Fighter V is on the verge of receiving a new story mode called “A Shadow Falls” which is going to add around 3-4 hours of gameplay time. Scheduled to release at the end of the month, it will be available as a free update for all players.
A Shadow Falls, depicts the ultimate battle between the evil Shadaloo organization and the heroic World Warriors who rise up against them.
More importantly, the new story mode is going to include playable versions of all six DLC characters. Currently, only two of them are available: Alex and Guile. Ibuki (recently delayed), Balrog, Urien, and Juri are scheduled to release over the course of the year. While still not tournament-ready, the story mode will allow players to get a preview and initial feel of the upcoming DLC characters.
Capcom also revealed that it has decided to scrap its plans of introducing Zenny to Street Fighter V as a real-world money option. According to the developer, the idea was to provide players with the choice of paying real money to buy content. Now they can do so directly through the first-party platforms of PlayStation Store and Steam. Capcom believes that the “familiar” and “established” infrastructure will prove more acceptable for players. The in-game store will be updated in this regard at the end of the month, by which the free trial period for Alex and Guile will also end.
Elsewhere in the post, the developer announced that premium Battle and story mode Costumes for every character in the game are going to go on sale this month. Note, however, that the former are going to be available for purchase with real-world money only, while the latter can be purchased with Fight Money as well.
Street Fighter V is now available on PlayStation 4 and PC.
