From Software, esteemed developer of the Dark Souls series, has confirmed that it’s working on a new Armored Core title.
Rumors regarding the game have been surfacing on the web for some time now. Speaking with Kotaku, studio boss Hidetaka Miyazaki finally put the rumors to rest. Details, though, will have to wait. Miyazaki stated that development of the new Armored Core game is in early stages. It’s still too soon to be talking about the title but once development progress further, fans might get lucky.
The last title in the Armored Core series was Armored Core: Verdict Day, released for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2013. Speculating on a release date, the new Armored Core installment could hit shelves in fall 2018 by the latest. That would make it five years that fans of the mech-focused series had to wait for a new installment.
That wasn’t the only thing that the Japanese studio revealed today. It also teased a “weird” game in the making. Before fans jump the gun, know that it’s unlikely to be a new Dark Souls installment. It has already been made relatively clear by Miyazaki that following Dark Souls 3, his team won’t be indulging in the series in the near future.
“When I say ‘weird,’ the genre might be a little weird,” he explained. “The game is weird. But we are diligently making it in all seriousness, so I just want people to know that when they think it’s strange.”
Dark Souls 3 is slated to receive the Ashes of Ariandel DLC next month for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
