Samsung Gear VR is soon going to receive official support for the Xbox One controller, Microsoft announced today.
Following an October update, Minecraft: Gear VR Edition is going to be the first title made compatible with the company’s new controller. Microsoft also revealed that Minecraft: Gear VR Edition is going to be present on the show-floor of Minecon 2016. Interested attendees can visit the Oculus booth to get a hands-on experience.
It’s important to note that users are required to update their controllers as well following the October update. This is because the controller needs to be connected to the phone via Bluetooth. Older versions of the Xbox One controller will not work with Gear VR games since they are not equipped with Bluetooth functionality.
Aside Minecraft, every other game that comes with controller functionality on Gear VR will be able to work with Xbox One controller. This list includes games such as Herobound, Spirit Champion, Omega Agent, and End Space. More information on compatible games and release dates has been promised in “the coming months.”
Samsung Gear VR supports multiple Android phones, such as the Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 Edge, Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy S6 Edge+, Galaxy S6, and the Galaxy S6 Edge. Pretty much the entire new lineup of Samsung phones can take advantage of the new functionality.
Oculus Rift support was added to Minecraft in August. Owning a Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition automatically entitles you to a free copy of the Oculus Rift version. Additionally, the VR version is free to anyone who purchased the original Minecraft version PC from Mojang’s website.
