Bad news looms over the horizon for PC owners looking to run Dishonored 2 on their beloved AMD hardware. An individual from Australia who just received an early review copy of the game from Bethesda has posted on NeoGAF to report disappointing performance on PC, especially for AMD users.
His system comprises Intel i5 4690k, AMD R9 290, and 16GB RAM, and is unable to maintain 60 frames-per-second at 1440p. Hence, he’s currently playing the game at 1080p with most settings reduced to High, and some of the more demanding features disabled. Still, the game is unable to maintain a constant 60 FPS and constantly dips into the high 40s. In some rare instances, Dishonored 2 drops to as low as 18 FPS.
To test his system, the reviewer turned down all the settings to Very Low and disabled every feature there is to run Dishonored 2 on the bare minimum. However, it brought no improvement to the frame-rate.
The fluctuating frame-rate isn’t isolated to a single area. Every open area drags the FPS counter below regardless of what settings he’s playing on.
To clarify, the reviewer is running the game on the same set of drivers that Bethesda Softworks mentioned in the game’s recently released system requirements.
Perhaps AMD will need to release another driver update upon the game’s release. Either that or there’s something brewing here for AMD owners and the developer will need to issue a patch. It must also be taken into consideration that there’s a massive 9 GB day-one patch scheduled to release. Could that contain hidden optimizations and performance tweaks for the PC version?
Yesterday, it was revealed that Dishonored 2 is protected on PC by the third-party Digital Rights Management (DRM) services of Denuvo.
Dishonored 2 is scheduled to release on November 11 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Pre-loading via Steam is currently live everyone who secures early copies.
