To honor the memory of the late Brazilian first division football club Chapecoense, EA has given out a free Chapecoense kit and crest to all FIFA 17 players.

The Brazilian first division football team was on its way to the finals of a regional tournament when its chartered plane crashed due to electrical failure. Scheduled to play against Atletico Nacional of Medellin, it was supposed to be the biggest match for the club in its history.

A total of 77 passengers were on board when tragedy struck. This included majority of the team, coaching staff, and journalists. According to reports, just six passengers managed to survive the crash.

FIFA 17 Ultimate Team players are being encouraged by EA to wear the Chapecoense kit and crest in support. Players logging into the game are met with the following message:

In support of Chapecoense
Wear this kit and crest in support of the friends, family and fans of Chapecoense.
Forca Chape

It’s certainly a nice gesture from the publisher and the FIFA community is responding well.

Chapecoense fans last night also staged an emotional candlelit vigil inside the club’s Arena Conda stadium, as thousands of supporters came together as the club and community still look to come to terms with the tragic events. FIFA 17 players can now pay their own tribute.
