Watch Dogs 2 launched last week to good reviews but the latest sales report offers a different picture for Ubisoft’s hacking sequel.
According to Gfk Chart Tracker, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare finished this week at the top of the UK sales charts in all formats. Despite the new Call of Duty installment receiving significant flak from the community and some reviewers, it has cemeneted itself at the top of the charts for three weeks in a row.
Watch Dogs 2 was highly anticiapted to knock Infinity Ward’s game out of the park. However, the game managed to finish second and reports state that the sequel’s sales are down 80 percent compared to the original title.
To put into perspective, the first Watch Dogs 2 sold 380,000 units during its launch week. Considering that Infinite Warfare sales are down by 46 percent compared to the last Call of Duty installment, the futruistic sci-fi shooter has roughly managed to sell 80,000. With Watch Dogs 2 behind Infinite Warfare on the charts, we can estimate that it has only shifted less than 80,000 copies.
Do note that Gfk only monitors physical sales. A tremendous amount of users have gone digital in the past years and charts may look different if overall sales were to be conisdered. Nonetheless, it seems that the bad taste from the original game still lingers in the mouths of many users. Watch Dogs 2 looks to be a vast improvement over its original, but perhaps it arrives at a bad time.
With big hitters like Battlefield 1, Infinite Warfare, and the recently released, Dishonored 2, Watch Dogs 2 could have done better had the first game been received well.
Elsewhere in the charts, FIFA 17 slipped to third place this week while Battlefield 1 dropped to fourth. Thanks to retailer discounts, WWE 2K17 has jumped over to fifth place and hence, is expected to slide back down soon.
