In October, Nintendo announced a major event for January where the company plans to fully unveil its upcoming Nintendo Switch console. Today, Nintendo confirmed that the exclusive event is all set to go.
Nintendo Switch Presentation 2017 is scheduled to take place on January 12 at 8 p.m. PST / 11 p.m. EST. There’s no word on how long the session will last but Nintendo plans to stream the entire event live for those unable to attend in person.
Nintendo is expected to announce a final price point for the console, as well as reveal the complete launch lineup of games. Additionally, an exact launch date for the console itself will potentially be announced.
Nintendo Switch was first unveiled in October as a portable hybrid console that comes with detachable controllers. Hardware specifications have so far not been provided to us, but it has been confirmed that the console is powered by Nvidia’s custom Tegra processor.
The announcement trailer featured a montage of various games coming to the console; including our anticipated release of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Splatoon, NBA 2K17, and an enhanced version of Mario Kart 8. There’s a new Mario game in there as well which looks fairly similar to Super Mario 3D World.
That being said, there’s no word on whether all of the games previewed are releasing as launch titles. Since the console’s reveal, Nintendo has in fact confirmed Lego City Undercover and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild to be releasing alongside the console.
According to Nintendo CEO Tatsumi Kimishima, an estimated 2 million Nintendo Switch units will be shipped to retailers during the launch month alone. The company sees great potential in the hybrid machine. A good price point should potentially generate good sales as most have already purchased Xbox One and/or PlayStation 4 units. There’s always room for one more console, especially if that’s to play first-party Nintendo games.
