The critically acclaimed Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End has sold more than 8.7 million copies around the world, Sony announced this week.
The astonishing figure stands as of December 21 and includes both physical copies as well as digital sales through the PlayStation Store. While the press release didn’t clarify, it’s logical that Sony also included sales through hardware bundles.
It’s important to note that while Xbox One features various kinds of hardware bundles, PlayStation 4 does not. The main console bundle for Sony is pretty much the Uncharted 4 package. With the recent insane shopping season, not only did consumers bag a ton of PlayStation 4 consoles but also copies of Uncharted 4 with them. That undoubtedly gave a major boost to the sales of the game.
Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End was released on May 10 last year and registered 2.7 million sales during the first week. The figure is below that of Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception which sold 3.8 million copies during the launch day alone.
Recently, Naughty Dog announced Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. It’s a downloadable expansion to Uncharted 4 but focuses on Nadine and Chloe instead. The standalone title will not feature the series star Nathan Drake.
Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End is now available exclusively on PlayStation 4.
In other news, Sony recently announced that 6.2 million PlayStation 4 consoles were sold during the holiday season. Thanks to that, the company’s current-gen console has reached 53.4 million units sold worldwide.
