Prelude Rune is the name of the first project being worked on by Studio Istolia, a newly established development house by Square Enix.
“The aim of the studio is to provide unforgettable stories that will inspire players in their own lives, and bring new game experiences to everyone around the world,” said Square Enix but refrained from giving away any details about the game.
We do know that Prelude Rune is a role-playing experience that is being headed by Hideo Baba, the former lead producer and name behind the extensive Tales series which includes Tales of Destiny, Tales of Symphonia, Tales of Vesperia, Tales of Xillia, and Tales of Zestiria.
As such, Prelude Rune appears to be still in its early stages of development. Studio Istolia is currently on a hiring spree where it is in the search of designers and programmers.
There is no word on what platforms Prelude Rune is being developed for. Baba has mostly dedicated his time to PlayStation when he was with Bandai Namco. Hence, Prelude Rune is likely coming to PlayStation 4. That being said, Square Enix may possibly release the game for Xbox One as well unless Sony swoops in to sign an exclusive deal with the studio.
In other news, Square Enix recently hinted that it is interested in bringing Final Fantasy XIV over to the upcoming hybrid console machine, Nintendo Switch. However, producer Naoki Yoshida has noted several changes on the part of Nintendo if that release is to happen. Primarily, Square Enix will not limit Final Fantasy XVI by cutting its features just for the sake of gracing Nintendo’s platform.
