In light of a partnership between Sony and Activision, Call of Duty: WWII will receive timed-exclusive content for the PlayStation 4 player-base.
According to a product listing on Amazon, owners of the console will get early access to multiplayer map packs, and possibly to other add-on content. The exclusivity period will, however, last for only thirty days, after which the content will be released across the other platforms.
Details regarding the post-release content support for Call of Duty: WWII is unknown. In addition, there is no confirmation on whether Sledgehammer Games will release content exclusively for PlayStation 4. It is possible that a few minor items such as cosmetic options may arrive just for the specific player-base.
A timed-exclusivity deal for Call of Duty is hardly surprising. The franchise, for the longest time, enjoyed a similar partnership between Microsoft and Activision. However, that changed a couple of years back when Sony stepped in to form a new alliance with the publisher.
Call of Duty: WWII will tell the story of an “unbreakable brotherhood of common men fighting to preserve freedom” with lifelike visuals and great authenticity. As such, fans are cautioned to prepare for a journey that will be both intense and gritty.
According to studio head and co-founder Michael Condrey, Sledgehammer Games invested a lot of time in researching these past two years. The goal was to make Call of Duty: WWII as accurate as possible, and reenacting every setting in accordance with historical evidence. Sledgehammer Games believes that it was successful in doing so.
Call of Duty: WWII is scheduled to release on November 3 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. A worldwide reveal is confirmed to take place on April 26, at which we will hear more on the game’s story, features, and more.
