The makers of the best-selling mobile game Candy Crush and all its variants are making the latest Call Of Duty Mobile game. Stranger things have happened. But it isn’t that strange in this case since King Digital Entertainment, the makers of Candy Crush are under the umbrella corporation, Activision Blizzard (formed in 2008), which also houses Activision, Blizzard Entertainment, Major League Gaming, and Activision Blizzard Studios. King was purchased by Activision Blizzard for $5.9 billion in 2015.
The King team is based out of Stockholm, Sweden and is relishing the opportunity. They’re calling it “A Career Opportunity Of A Lifetime”.
“Our challenge as a team is to create a Call of Duty experience on mobile that will strive to transform the best console experience fans know and love, while breaking new ground for mobile and redefining the genre,”
-King Digital Entertainment
The Stockholm studio is currently hiring and many positions, including Art Director, are up for grabs.
While there has been a fair number of Call Of Duty mobile games in the past including, Strike Team and Black Ops Zombies, the fresh take by King can bring in some much-needed changes to the game. The Call of Duty franchise has been praised for its graphics and engaging gameplay but its detractors are always calling out the creators for its repetitive and, some would say, now stale formula.
What Could The New Games Bring?
The main Call of Duty release this year is rumoured to have a World War II setting, something which is entertainment gold whether it’s used in a movie, book or tv series. The setting of the “greatest war ever fought” can give the franchise some depth and a story arc that is potentially much more inspiring than previous ones.
The mobile game just may mimic the release of the WWII game and act as a mobile companion or it can go all out and make a game that is downright detached from reality.
If the creators of Candy Crush are doing Call of Duty, they should throw caution to the wind and just put in some world defying mechanics and gameplay. I don’t care what anyone says, I want missiles in the shape of jelly beans and rifles made out of candy canes. Now, these could be special purchases within the game or cheats or just regular upgrades, but what’s the point of combining to diametrically opposite franchises if we can’t get a little freaky? And as a cherry on top, please make random enemies on the map look like Candy Crush Requests.
