Phantom Dust is scheduled to release tomorrow for Xbox One and PC as part of Microsoft’s “Play Anywhere” initiative. This means that owners will be able to transfer their save files across both platforms and continue playing regardless. In addition, the multiplayer will also feature cross-play support, which is simply excellent.
Platform holders will be thrilled to know that the third-person fighting game will be arriving for free and feature a number of improvements over its original version. According to Polygon, the re-release of Phantom Dust has been updated to add a 16:9 aspect ratio. The game will also have support for both 1080p and 4K resolutions, depending on the capabilities of your system specifications.
According to head of games marketing at Xbox, Aaron Greenberg, the game is “a free gift to our amazing fans.” He also told everyone to expect “some nice frame-rate updates” alongside several in-game improvements.
A reboot of Phantom Dust was originally announced at E3 in 2014. It was then canned before later reappearing as a simpler re-mastered version for both PC and Xbox One. Microsoft later stated that the game was never in active development, but it wasn’t canceled either. The re-mastered version was birthed somewhere in-between as a possible solution.
