Casey Hudson, the lead producer on the original Mass Effect trilogy has been called back to take the reigns of BioWare Edmonton as general manager. The position was formerly held by Aaryn Flynn, who announced earlier today that he has decided to part ways with the studio after giving seventeen years of his professional career life.

In his farewell post, Flynn revealed that he has been “contemplating changes” for quite a while and believes that now is the time to leave his post. He joined BioWare fresh out of college and worked on a number of major titles such as Neverwinter Nights, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, and Jade Empire. Flynn will officially be walking through the doors of the studio at the end of the month.

Hudson left BioWare three years ago. which was the “most difficult decision” of his career. However, he needed “some time off, need a bit of change” and was interested in getting his hands into new “disruptive technologies” to expand his portfolio.

“The last few years have been transformative for me, from having time to reflect on what I most want to do, to working with new technologies at platform scale,” said Hudson in an announcement. “And now, I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to return to lead BioWare – a studio that I think of as home.

“When I look at the stunning progress Aaryn and the team has made with Anthem, and the other projects in the works, I truly believe our best is yet to come.”

Mass Effect: Andromeda was supposed to breathe new life into the critically acclaimed science-fiction franchise. However, its controversial reception took a toll on the studio. According to rumors, Electronic Arts has put the series on a hiatus. In the mean time, BioWare is busying itself in releasing small quality-of-life updates for the game.

The major focus, though, is on Anthem. The open-world Destiny-esque project is scheduled to release in fall 2018 and appears to be an ambitious take by the development team. In addition, BioWare is also said to be working on another Dragon Age installment. However, an official announcement is yet to arrive.
