ArenaNet is gearing up to announce a new expansion pack for Guild Wars 2 next week, which will be the second one for the well-received massively multiplayer online role-playing game since it was released nearly five years ago.

According to the official website, the announcement will take place on August 1 at 9:00 a.m. PDT and be aired live for everyone. Those interested in catching the stream will be able to do so through the game’s official channels.

The developer is not ready to give away any sort of hints for the upcoming new content. However, the final episode of the “living” tale of Heart of Thorns may hold a clue. The concluding cut-scene teases that the next expansion pack may be set in the Crystal Desert and feature the Elder Dragon, Kralkatorrik, who resides there.

Heart of Thorns is the first expansion pack for Guild Wars 2 and was released nearly two years ago. It was set in the Maguuma Jungle, which is resided over by another Elder Dragon known as Mordremoth. The expansion saw the developer fulfill its promise of never raising the character level cap or introducing higher-rated equipment for players. Those are a natural part of every expansion pack released for other online titles such as World of Warcraft. We will see if the developer continues with the same model with the second expansion pack for Guild Wars 2.
