Insomniac Games has undergone another re-branding effort for its corporate image, the fourth since it was founded more than two decades ago.

According to the official announcement, the studio challenged itself to “think beyond the moon” for its new visual identity. This led to several massive changes since the redesign needed to reflect “our evolution as a studio and as people while retaining some familiarity to our past logo treatments.”

“It’s got a lunar theme, with what appear to be two crescent moons facing each other as the ‘O’–reminiscent of our past and future,” Insomniac Games explained. “Many folks here also see a portal or lens for the ‘O,’ which we like because it symbolizes exploration as well as how many of our fans see us differently.”

The company knows that the new logo “may be jarring to some people” but it is a necessary “bold” step to highlight a desire for evolution.

Insomniac Games has been behind several popular franchises on the PlayStation platform such as Spyro, Ratchet & Clank, and Resistance. It also created Sunset Overdrive for Microsoft and is currently working on the upcoming Spider-Man game for PlayStation 4. In addition, it has recently started dipping its hands into virtual reality as well.

Insomniac Games has released 25 games since it was founded in 1994 as Xtreme Software. It later took the current name later in the same year and grew in time from 50 employees to more than 275 across multiple offices. The studio has also earned 18 workplace culture awards at the local, regional, state and national level.
