The 2017 Japan Game Awards, hosted annually at the Tokyo Game Show (TGS) by the Computer Entertainment Supplier’s Association (CESA), has finally revealed its list of winners. It comes as no surprise that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild took home the “Game of the Year” award with relative ease.

Released alongside the Nintendo Switch in March, the open-world action-adventure experience was hailed by critics as a masterpiece and contender for one of the greatest video games of all time. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has earned a ton of accolades and praise both during its development period and afterwards. Not only did it receive an astonishing number of perfect reviews but it went on to break launch-title sales records for Nintendo in multiple regions.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild sold an “unprecedented” number of copies on the hybrid console. The game was confirmed to have sold more than 3.9 million copies on the Switch by July.

This is the first “Game of the Year” award for the new Zelda installment this year. It is currently a nominee in the category of “Ultimate Game of the Year” for the Golden Joystick Awards. It is important to note that this is the second time that Nintendo has won a grand award in a row after Splatoon dominated awards-list last year.
