Civilization VI is scheduled to receive a major update this fall that will completely revamp the current religion system in the game.
Posting on Steam earlier today, associate producer Sarah Darney previewed some of the upcoming significant features. The new installment in the turn-based strategy-building franchise is getting new beliefs and religious units. In addition, two new Pantheons are being introduced along with new Founder, Follower, Enhancer, and Worship Beliefs. There will also be a new combat unit called the Warrior Monk.
“We also heard your requests for a deeper overall experience – and took that to heart with revamped religious combat,” the developer noted. “Religious units can now exert Zone of Control and receive Flank and Support bonuses in religious combat. Meanwhile, the Guru religious support unit can heal nearby religious units.
Finally, the user interface is being overhauled to improve usability and readability. Players will not have to rely on “guesswork” to verify the allegiance of units.
However, that is not all that is being addressed with the upcoming update. The enemy AI is being toughened up for Civilization VI this fall. The computer opponents will now be building more naval units than before, as well as fleets and armadas to take control of the oceans. They will now also protect their comrades and provide healing on the fly. The “least useful” gossip messages are being removed to ascertain that players only receive news that matters.
“Beyond this, the Great People art has been updated to feel more ‘great’ and make this screen easier to navigate,” the developer further added. “Capital icons now show on city banners in the Espionage Mission selection menu, and many smaller changes have been made to the menus to make screens more moddable and extensible.”
It has not been revealed as to which new religions are being added to the game. More details should arrive in the coming weeks.
