League of Legends is looking to improve upon its ranked play in 2019 through a variety of methods disclosed in a large article posted online. The post mentions that they seek to split each ranked season into three splits to keep players engaged longer.

“For many players right now, playing ten games at the beginning of the year earns them the same rewards as their friends who play hundreds of games,” said Riot Games.

It is true that many players simply play their placement games and get whatever rewards they would expect from Ranked and just sit on them; as a result, actively competitive players feel frustrated that they are not proportionately rewarded for their struggles in Ranked play.

Riot believes that they can fix this problem by splitting up the Ranked Season for League of Legends into three shorter splits. This would probably mean that there will be three times the rewards per ranked season, but there are no official details as how these splits will work.

This will also encourage players to be more active on the game since if they want to receive all ranked rewards, they must play thrice as much; however, it is important to note that the ranks a player has achieved during a ranked season will not reset between the three splits.

This peculiar decision will probably mean that there is probably more to it than it seems, and there isn’t much more information out there from which we can speculate on.

Nevertheless, the fact that Riot is addressing a problem many players of League of Legends have been complaining about is assuring for many fans.

We will likely learn more about the new system in the coming few months before next year’s Ranked system adopts the changes. In the meantime, you can drop your personal feedback on the upcoming changes through the official forums.
