Attack on Titan Season 4: Too Much Of A Good Thing

The Roots of Attack on Titan

Hajime Isayama fist came out with Attack on Titan in 2009, with its first season being adapted by Studio Wit in 2013. The first season itself opened to rave reviews garnering fans from all around the world. After that, a bit of a silence came over the fanbase as the second season would not be coming out for another 4 years in 2017.

Of course, if this was any other anime its fandom would have died out by now but the Attack on Titan was going strong. With the third season coming out a year later in 2018 in 2 parts. And the final season itself which was said to be split into 2 parts as well, starting off with part 1 at the end of 2020 and and the second part ending on January 9th 2022.

The Attack on Titan franchise has become a cultural phenomenon and is widely regarded as one of the most successful manga and anime series of all time. It has won numerous awards, including the Kodansha Manga Award and the Harvey Award for Best American Edition of Foreign Material.

What’s Wrong With The Final Season?

And this seemed like such a fitting end to the series with the final season being split into 2 parts spanning over 2 years and finally ending. But, that’s not the case now is it, with updates from Mappa Studio showing that we will also be having a part 3 for the series. But not only will we be having a part 3, that part 3 will be split into 2 parts itself, The first part of which will be coming out on March 4th.

Of course, while the fanbase is still going strong and have still been waiting eagerly to see how the series ends, it seems like some viewers are growing tired of what Mappa is doing with their beloved series. Now don’t get me wrong, Mappa is excelling in their art style and the new animation looks wonderful but the fact of the matter is that cutting the last season into so many parts and adding onto it is something that most fans did not expect. Not only that, news of the ending aiming to be done in a movie has also been going around which has left fans clueless about when the series will exactly end.

The Future of Attack on Titan

Will it end with the third part of the final season or will we have to wait for another year or 2, as well as buy tickets to the cinema just to see the ending of a beloved anime? It seems like the fatigue of the series being stretched on and on has become too much for some fans who are leaving the show behind and focusing on other anime right now.

This in itself could become a problem for the series as looking back most fans will likely think that the series didn’t need to be stretched out for so long and could have been done cleanly in 2 parts. We will wait and see how they will deliver with the third part of season 4 as the finale, but it seems like the more they stretch it out, the more some fans will grow agitated as to when the series will end, with them ending up losing interest in the anime altogether.
