The Resident Evil 4 remake is releasing on 24th March and it is one of the most anticipated games of the year. Capcom has released a playable demo for the game titled “Chainsaw Demo” across all platforms. The demo is very short and covers the very first area of the game, “The Village“. We still consider it to be THE best tutorial area for any game ever released and the remake is no different.
Despite the demo being so short, it can’t stop the fans from finding a lot of secrets and Easter eggs in it. We recently posted a guide on how to find an additional weapon in the demo, TMP, which will carry on to your full game. Such a fan who goes by the name of Jigzaw_Killer on YouTube, has found a way to unlock “Mad Chainsaw Mode” permanently in the demo.
Mad Chainsaw Mode is a secret, super difficult mode that appears randomly when starting the demo. You must finish the demo at least once (according to our findings) for this mode to appear. There is no trigger or a particular event for it to trigger, or we thought so.
According to Jigzaw_Killer, you can unlock Mad Chainsaw Mode permanently by using a particular cheat code. For this code to work you must be on the “New Game” screen. Then you need to hold L1 and R1 buttons simultaneously (LB and RB for Xbox controller). Without letting go of the buttons, you need to input the following combination in order.
Up, Left, Down, Right, Square, Triangle, Circle, Cross, Cross (X, Y, B, A, A for Xbox Controller).
After the input, Mad Chainsaw Mode will appear. If you decline, you will be sent back to the New Game screen and start your normal playthrough. If you accept this mode, it will appear every subsequent time, unless you decline (a very nifty feature). To access this mode, you have to enter the cheat code again in case you decline.

Mad Chainsaw Mode ramps up the difficulty level by a huge margin. Enemies become stronger and dish out a lot more damage. Ammo and recovery items becomes scarce. Leon takes much more damage from normal attacks. And if you die, there are no checkpoints. It is game over and you have to start from the very beginning. The demo ends with a boss fight, Dr Salvador with flaming chainsaw. Yes. The Chainsaw nightmare, now with additional fire damage. This mode adds a lot of challenge and replay value to otherwise very brief demo. We can’t wait to experience this mode in retail version of the game.
