The newest Zelda title has now broken records as the fastest-selling 1st party title for Nintendo, as the game has sold more than 18.51 million units since its release back in May. This means that the game has sold more than half of the total number of units sold for its previous title, The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild since its release more than seven years ago.

There was also a boost to the Mario franchise as its games also saw a rise in sales, with Nintendo reasoning the Super Mario Bros. movie accounting for the popularity of the franchise throughout the world.
The first quarter of the fiscal year now shows Nintendo having two 1st Party titles reaching high million sales marks.

It is a very honourable achievement of the Zelda Franchise’s developers that made the sequel to the 2017 BOTW title have such a high impact on the videogame industry, as the company is looking like it is moving smoothly and independently behind its numerous high-selling and highly popular franchises that push its current console to break records in its seventh year. Zelda Breath of the Wild itself was a highly acclaimed title that is considered by many as the backbone for the Nintendo Switch’s success, as its debut release with the console is what paved the way to the Switch’s growth in sales.
The billion software sales mark and the Nintendo Switch reaching almost 130 million units sold is Nintendo’s strongest and the highest earning statistic in its history, and the Zelda franchise, specifically Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom are the two titles that had a big hand in achieving these numbers.
